‘Collaboration for prevention of fires & explosions at chemicals facilities’
KOSHA and LOTTE CHEMICAL signed for co-development of

occupational safety manual for petrochemical work and facilities


Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA) and LOTTE CHEMICAL have signed the MOU for co-development of accident prevention media for petrochemical industry on 24th September 2015 at LOTTE CHEMICAL’s Ulsan plant. The MOU has been concluded by KOSHA’s Vice President for Training and Safety Culture, Mr. Hyung-chul Choi, and LOTTE CHEMICAL’s plant general manager, Yong-ho Kim.


The objective of this MOU is concerning cooperation and distribution of OSH manual for petrochemical facility and work. According to the MOU, KOSHA will organize safety rules for different work-sites based on its occupational accident statistics and examples; and LOTTE CHEMICAL will provide professional opinion regarding hazardous factors. The developed material will be distributed to not only LOTTE CHEMICAL, domestic SMEs and contract workers but other petrochemical-related industries. KOSHA will utilize its webpage and mobile application to facilitate the distribution.

 

LOTTE CHEMICAL has well operated its Process Safety Management (PSM) and owned one hundred of work-site tailored OSH video contents since 2012 and thanks to this MOU with KOSHA, the company can expect synergy effect to upgrade the content’s quality and wider contribution.

 

Meanwhile, KOSHA developed Safety rules for hazardous chemicals managementand distributed it to about 470 workplaces and open it public via KOSHA’s webpage: http://www.kosha.or.kr.

 

* The Safety Rules for Hazardous Chemicals Managementcontains safety rules for handling, storage and transportation of explosives, flammable solids, reactive substances and organic peroxides.

 

The president of KOSHA; Young-Soon, LEE said “Any leakage or explosion accident at chemical facilities can be catastrophe for people, community and environment.” And “Continuous support and collaboration for relevant industry will contribute to prevent serious industrial accident.”
