Strengthening tight assistance to support workplaces in Mokpo area”

KOSHA opens “Jeonnam Seobu Area Office” on March 12th

About 24,000 workplaces expect to benefits from timely technical assistance

KOSHA (headed by President Baek Hun-ki) opened a new area office in the western area of Jeollanam-do and began its full operation. Now, it is available to assist workplaces in western Jeoollanam-do including Mokpo, Yeongam-gun, etc. to prevent industrial accidents.

As the area office opens, about 170,000 workers from about 24,000 workplaces can be provided the OSH service in the area. The Daebul Industrial Complex where the fishing businesses are concentrated in and 12 agricultural industrial complexes are distributed in this area. 

The accident rate of the area shows higher than the average accident rate of Korea, recording 0.76% last year. The figure is 1.3 folds higher than the national average rate of 0.58%.

The opening of the Jeonnam Seobu Area Office is significant in the sense that it lays a solid foundation for tight support at close distance to workplaces in the western area of Jeollanam-do.

At the opening ceremony, major interested parties participated including members of local assembly, head of Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Administration, etc. As part of the celebrations, representatives of labor and management adopted a resolution setting up the safety culture; left signatures on the large size of the Zero Injury flag to demonstrate their determination to reduce industrial accidents; and hung up a signboard.

KOSHA now makes an effort to prevent industrial accidents with 27 affiliated organizations nationwide based on its system consisted of 6 Regional Offices and 21 Area Offices

President Baek Hun-ki of KOSHA said, “We opened Jeonnam Seobu Area Office to provide workplaces in the area of Jeollanam-do with technical assistance to prevent industrial accidents at close range in a timely manner.” He added “Taking this as opportunities, I hope we can build safer and healthier working environment as well as reduce industrial accidents.”
