Business safety and health leaders come forward to make ‘Safe Workplaces’

Safety and health leaders from 24 businesses in Daejeon-si, Sejong-si and Chungnam province take the lead for occupational accident prevention

24 businesses in Daejeon-si, Sejong-si and Chungnam province came together for ‘safe workplaces’.

KOSHA (headed by President Baek, Hun-ki) held a meeting for occupational accident prevention and signed MOUs for preventing occupational injuries with safety and health leaders in Daejeon-si, Sejong-si and Chungnam province on Wednesday, April 23 in a meeting room at the Hankook Tire Daejeon Plant.

KOSHA held the meeting and signed the MOUs as a part of enhancing accident prevention activities on the site to form a consensus on occupational accident prevention in the region and increase management’s attention on the prevention.

In the meeting attended by 24 businesses from 17 types of business, current status of occupational accidents in the region was shared and difficulties for propelling safety and health activity by business type were discussed.

24 businesses from 17 types of business include manufacturers of automobile, medicine and rubber goods and organic chemical companies, which handle dangerous materials and harmful and hazardous process.

The discussion at the meeting was mainly about plans to promote workers’ health protection including preventing musculoskeletal diseases in workplaces of automobile industry and measures to prevent fatal accidents in chemical plants through previous cases.

24 businesses signed the MOUs with Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Administration and Daejeon Regional Office of KOSHA to cooperate each other for occupational accident prevention.

The aim of the MOUs is that Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Administration actively support the self-regulatory OSH activities at workplaces and the Daejeon Regional Office enhances the safety and health level in workplaces by supporting safety and health education, risk assessment and establishment of safety and health management system.

In the same event, Woongjin Energy located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon-si received the certification of achieving seven-times injury record. Hankook Tire’s best practice of safety management was presented as well.

Baek, Hun-ki, President of KOSHA said, “In order to enhance effectiveness of occupational accident prevention, continuous interest and efforts for improvement are necessary.” “We hope that organic cooperation among those in charge of safety and health in business will be able to secure safety and health of workers in the region” he added.
