KOSHA held a vision proclamation ceremony on March 6th, which suggests innovative, new vision and future direction for safety and health, at its headquarters and proposed strategies to reach an OSH level on a par with that of advanced countries.

At the ceremony, President Lee, Young-soon of KOSHA announced 'Happy Partner of Workers, Top Leader in Occupational Accident Prevention' as a new vision and set a goal 'to reach 0.3? level of fatality rate per 10,000 people by 2019'.

In Korea, about 90,000 people suffer occupational accidents and we lose more than 900 of the precious lives from work-related accidents each year. Along with the vision, KOSHA proposed 4 major strategies and 12 strategic tasks to achieve the vision goal.

The 4 major strategies for meeting the vision goal are 1) Enhancement of Needs-oriented capacity to react OSH aspects; 2) Reinforcement of Self-regulatory OSH management installation; 3) Dissemination of OSH culture; and 4) Strengthening of Future growth engine.

'Systematize occupational accidents by fields vulnerable to the accidents'; 'promote health of workers and make workplace better and safer' are included in the 12 strategic tasks on which KOSHA will put emphasis.

Through his statement, President Lee mentioned "I expect today's ceremony will become opportunities to spread the value of respect for human life as well as to escalate a culture of safety and health to the level of that of advanced countries." He added "With the proposal of the new vision, KOSHA will do our utmost to become one of the world-renowned organizations with professional competency to prevent occupational accidents" as well.
