Professional consulting on Asbestos disposal and removal

for safer small-scale workplace

KOSHA drafted 30 professional consultants to secure the safety of small-scale disposal or removal of asbestos and provides consulting to 5,000 workplaces nationwide by the end of 2015. The consultant team of this year is formed with asbestos management license holders, those who majored in asbestos management and seasoned workers in handling asbestos.

The process of the consulting includes checking and advising on the conditions of well-sealed; proper wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE); and compliance of safety rules and regulation through on-site visit. In particular, the consultants thoroughly check the propriety of work plan; the compliance of work procedure; quality and utilization of equipment; management of human resources and work history.

On-site technical support will be delivered with regard to respects feasible to be improved immediately. In case the result of consulting shows that the site does not meet the legal requirement or that workers or neighbors are at high risk of asbestos exposures, it will be reported to the competent local authority for requesting administrative actions.

Asbestos is a group 1 carcinogen substances once used as an insulation material in building construction. In Korea, the government banned the manufacture, import, sale, storage, transport or use of asbestos or any substance containing more than 0.1% of asbestos since 2009. President LEE mentioned "KOSHA will spare no effort to eradicate blind spot of safety on asbestos disposal and removal work site by enhancing technical support."
