Major Shipbuilders and Sub-contractors prevent Industrial Accident Together

KOSHA hold「OSH Leader Meeting in Shipbuilding Sector」

Accident analysis and countermeasures with

CEOs and people concerned from 9 major Shipbuilders

□ KOSHA(President Lee Young-Soon) held『OSH Leader Meeting in Shipbuilding Sector』at the Headquarters of KOSHA in Ulsan on 7, December.

◈ OSH Leader Meeting in Shipbuilding Sector

- Date/Venue : 14:10∼16:00, 7 December, 2016 KOSHA Headquarters

- Participants : KOSHA President Lee Young-Soon, MOEL Director of Industrial Accident Prevention Bureau Park Hwa-Jin and 9 CEOs* and about 30 people concerned about OSH from shipbuilding sector

* Hyundai Heavy Industry, Samsung Heavy Industry, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industry, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, Hanjin Heavy Industry, Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering, Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering

○ The 『OSH Leader Meeting in Shipbuilding Sector』is a consultative body formed in 2010 by government and CEOs in shipbuilding sector to prevent occupational accidents and to promote OSH level in workplace.

 

□ Active discussions on major accident prevention solutions in shipbuilding sector were made at the meeting with a presentation on the analysis of accident cases and countermeasures to the accidents in shipbuilding sector delivered by Director of Industrial Safety Bureau of KOSHA.

○ In particular, due to recent serial fatal accidents of sub-contracted workers in the shipbuilding sector, analysis on the accidents was carried out and discussion on countermeasures was made.

 

Director Park Hwa-Jin of Industrial Accident Prevention Bureau, MOEL, mentioned "Shipbuilding sector is going through hard times," and he also asked CEOs to practice OSH management actively so that workers can work in safe and secure workplace.

 

□ President Lee Young-Soon of KOSHA stated "positive support for upgrading OSH level of main contractor is important in order to prevent fatal accidents of sub-contracted workers." Lee added "Not main contractor nor sub-contractor can be free from occupational accident. Please try your best to establish a culture of safety check where main and sub contractors are cooperating and practicing."
