Move Safely in Spring

KOSAH, Prepares Safety Rules Training Material for Using Movers Lift

Distributes to Movers and Apartment Building Management Offices Nationwide

Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA, President Young-soon Lee) announced that the agency will prepare and distribute the Safety Rules for Using Movers Lift and also post the to the agencys homepage for their use in the field in order to prevent various accidents that may occur in preparation for the spring, the typical season for moving.

○ The agency will distribute the safety rules to professional moving companies (128) that operate (3 or more) lifts for moving and safety inspection agencies for their use in safety training

○ and also distribute them to apartment house management offices through Korea Housing Managers Association to post them where they can be seen by residents in an effort to spread the culture of preventing accident for moving.

The movers lift is the equipment for moving packages quickly and conveniently for high rises, but accidents* are happening during its use.

* In February 2017, a mover, taking down a bed from the lifts carriage at OO Apartment in Seoul, lost balance and fell from the carriage to the ground 20m below.

○ Although Regulations on Occupational Safety and Health Standards stipulates the obligation to prohibit workers from riding the lifts carriage, take measures to prevent the lift from falling, and take measures to prevent packages from falling from the carriage,

○ Movers have been continuously exposed to accidents due to unsafe operations such as riding the lift’s carriage or packages falling from the lift.

“Spring is a high season for movers and the safety can be easily neglected while handling increase of work,” said Said Director Sang-woo Park of Service Industry Safety Bureau of KOSHA, “We should all make efforts to prevent accidents when moving by practicing the safety rules.”
