A COLLOQUIUM under the title Managing stress at work has been organised
by the Hazards Forum and Manufacturing Division of the Institution of
Electrical Engineers (IEE) in Birmingham on l8 March.
The IEE says that while it is accepted that work fatalities are fewer
than they were, stress levels among employees at all levels are continu-
ing to grow, leading to greater levels of industrial illness, with in-
creasing legal responsibilities and liabilities for employers. Stress has
reached unacceptable levels among the professions.
This colloquium aims to enable senior and middle management and engi-
neers to alleviate stress-related factors in manufacturing and other
workplaces by sound design and best practice. The meeting is led by
speakers from industry. higher education, government and the legal and
medical professions, and will cover:
● recognition and measurement of stress conditions
● stress management, prevention, minimisation and eradication
● health-related, human resources and social factors.
