August 25, 2011

An MOU has been signed with a professional industrial accident prevention agency in Japan, aimed at further cooperation for technical exchanges.

On August 23, 2011 (Tue), Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA; President: Baek, Hun-Ki) singed an MOU with a representative professional agency specializing in the prevention of industrial accident prevention ? Japan Industrial Safety & Health Association (JISHA). Through the MOU, the two organizations agreed to work together for the exchanges of accident prevention techniques and related information.

Earlier in 1998, KOSHA has signed a technical arrangement with JISHA in the area of occupational hygiene. The MOU signed between KOSHA and JISHA this time will serve to broaden the basis for more collaboration, through the establishment of close ties between training institutes of the two organizations. Through the MOU, the training institutes in the two organizations will co-develop training curriculum and training materials, exchange human resources in the training sector, and share technical information and materials.

JISHA was established in 1964 based on the Industrial Accidents Prevention Organization Act. It is a representative private accident prevention bodies in Japan working to boost productivity in workplaces and promote prevention activities. The main tasks of JISHA include consultations on OSH, technical support and R&D, health promotion activities, and clean workplace campaign. Also, JISHA operates a training center, which serves to provide safety and health training and develop safety and health professionals.

During the meeting with JISHA’s President Mr. Hideaki Sekizawa, Director General Choi, Dae-Yul for Training and Public Relations in KOSHA said, “Korea and Japan are at the center of OSH in Asia and we are good international partners. I believe the OSH training in the two countries can improve further after the MOU, and I look forward to an active collaboration.”

So far, KOSHA has signed MOUs with 60 organizations specializing in the prevention of accident prevention in 28 countries to facilitate technical exchanges on a global scale and share human and technical resources.
