KOSHA Spreads the Message on Prevention Culture in Australia

- Strengthening cooperation with APOSHO members -

November 25, 2011

A delegation from Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA; President: Baek, Hun-Ki) attended the 26th Annual Conference of Asia Pacific Occupational Safety & Health Organization (APOSHO 26). The APOSHO 26 was a good opportunity for KOSHA to build and strengthen international cooperation with safety and health organizations from countries in the region.

The annual APOSHO Conference is a gathering of non-profit and non-governmental OSH organizations in the Asia Pacific region, and 37 organizations from 22 countries are active as members.

KOSHA is the chair organization of Technical Committee in the APOSHO, through which technical information on OSH is shared among member organizations and countries.

Director General Choi, Dae-Yul from KOSHA presided over the Technical Committee meeting during the APOSHO 26. He urged the member organizations to reinvigorate technical exchanges among members through the medium of agreements on cooperation. Also, he called for the members’ active participation in the efforts to promote prevention culture, by joining the ISSA Section on a Culture of Prevention.

On the other hand, KOSHA organized a Special Session on the Seoul Declaration. During the special session, Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky of ISSA addressed a keynote speech, followed by a presentation of a good example from Singapore. The presentations were successful in encouraging the interest and participation of those attending the special session, for the promotion of the Seoul Declaration on Safety and Health at Work, as well as prevention culture.

“As a member of APOSHO, KOSHA is building a global OSH network along with the ILO and ISSA. Through active exchanges and collaborations with international organizations, KOSHA will seek to further enhance the level of safety and health at work,” said Director General Choi.
