The first issue of a new publication outlining HSE's research
programme for 1996/7 has been published. Entitled " Mainstream Research
Market 1996/97" it sets out HSE's portfolio of research projects and
interests in the fields of Occupational Health, Major Hazards,
Behavioural and Social Sciences. It states how research is procured and
managed and spells out HSE's anticipated research requirements. Two
industry specific research programmes on Offshore Safety and Nuclear
Safety are also described in the appendices
HSE plans to spend about ￡25 million pounds Sterling or 13% of its
budget on research and scientific activity in addition to research
funded though HSE by industry. There are some 400 projects in the main
areas listed above which are ongoing.
