Just weeks afrer OSHA released its final rule covering
the use of personal protective equipment in shipyards,
the first wave of corrections has rolled in.
The corrected provisions require employers to conduct
and document hazard assessments that will help determine
what type of PPE will protect their employees. And in addition to
fitting PPE to the hazards involved, employers must make sure
it fits their workers properly.
The final rule published May 24 updates PPE requirements
for the shipyard industry in effect since the early l970s.
The corrections affect provisions under 29 CFR l9l5.l52
that cover hazard-assessment requirements.
