SAFETY TIPS TO REDUCE FATAL AND DISABLING INJURIES IN THE WORKPLACE
    ===================================================================

Fatal injury occurs every six minutes and a disabling injury occurs
every two seconds, according to a 1998 National Safety Council (NSC)
Report on Injuries. The report, based on an annual survey of the
country's safety and health, lists the leading causes of injuries in
America as motor vehicle crashes, falls, poisoning, drowning, and fires
and burns. Employers and employees can take the steps listed below to
    reduce their risk of injury.

    - Knowledge is key --- know that all injuries are preventable.

    - Make safety an integral part of your business; safety programs save
lives, increase productivity and save money.

    - Wear your safety belt. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of
death for people in age groups from 1 to 24.

    - Your company should enact strict motor vehicle programs for employees.
Highway crashes are the leading cause of death on the job.

    - Learn first aide and CPR.

    - Falls account for 14,000 deaths per year and 22 million visits to the
hospital. You can reduce the risk of falls by using equipment properly,
such as ladders; by using the handrail when walking up or
down stairs; and by keeping the walkways free of clutter.

    - Assess potential risk areas on-the-job as well as off-the-job such as
high carbon monoxide levels, radon, choking hazards, and eliminate
      those hazards.
