            THE THINKSAFE CAMPAIGN
            ======================

The Western Australian Government's ThinkSafe Campaign aims to halve the
number of accidental deaths and injuries in Western Australia by the year
2000. Premier Richard Court launched the campaign in January 1996.

ThinkSafe aims to create a 24 hours a day, seven days a week safety culture
at work, at home and on the roads. The ThinkSafe theme "Where there's risk,
pause and think" is applied through the now familiar ThinkSafe SAM steps:

      - Spot the hazard
      - Assess the risk
      - Make the changes

The ThinkSafe campaign comprises a number of programs designed to develop
a safety culture across industry and the community. These programs are
   outlined below.

A Ministerial Statement by the Hon Graham Kierath, Minister for Labour
Relations, to the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday 23 June 1998, outlines
the positive impact of the ThinkSafe campaign on safety awareness.

    [ THINKSAFE CLUB ]

Football star Glen Jakovich and ThinkSafe SAM show primary school aged
children how to use the ThinkSafe SAM steps at home, at school and on the
    road.

Children can become members of the Club and be eligible to win prizes.

   [ HOMESAFE ]

HomeSafe provides practical assistance for eliminating
accidents and injuries before they happen. It offers
simple strategies for dealing with hazards that too
frequently lead to people being injured, maimed,
poisoned, drowned, burnt - and sometimes killed.

   [ DRIVESAFE ]

DriveSafe provides simple advice as provided by injury
prevention agencies to help people reduce their risk of
experiencing an accident on the roads.

  [ THINKSAFE VIDEO ]

Glen Jakovich and Jenny Dunstan introduce a typical family who
    demonstrate the ThinkSafe SAM Steps.

Every home should have a copy of the ThinkSafe Video - available from
    Coles Supermarkets for $2.00.

   [ THINKSAFE TOWNS ]

A ThinkSafe Town participates in the ThinkSafe program
by taking a proactive approach, adopting a safety culture
and the ThinkSafe SAM steps across all community
sectors. The Council, major employers, service
organisations, community groups and schools actively
    participate in safety activities

provided that WorkSafe Western Australia receives appropriate
acknowledgement, and that no substantial changes are made to the text.
