SAFETY TIPS TO IMPROVE HOUSEKEEPING IN THE WORKPLACE
     =====================================================

Poor housekeeping increases the chance of falls, which cause 10 percent
of on-the-job fatalities. With proper housekeeping techniques, you and
your employees can eliminate conditions that could cause serious
injuries or even death in the workplace. Housekeeping doesn't have to
be difficult --- just simply follow the safety tips below, and you will
make your workplace safer for everyone.

Keep floors and work surfaces clear of unnecessary objects by
making sure walkways are free from objects that could trip
someone. Common trip hazards include boxes, chairs, drawers, and
   electrical cords.

Dust is more than a mere nuisance -- it can also be a fire
hazard. When getting rid of dust, don't just wipe off the dusty
area which makes dust airborne and someone else's problem. Dust
can be removed with appropriate vacuum equipment.

Check floor surfaces to make sure they are not too slick or have
any other hazards. If you find any bumps, rough spots or poor
surfaces on the floor, report the problems to management
   immediately.

You should make sure that floors are marked for safety. Platforms
and ramps should be brightly colored so that they stand out.

Be sure you have plenty of room to clean. Some workplaces are
filled with machinery that can restrict your movement. Keep clear
of openings in machinery that could snag your clothes or PPE.

   Empty trash cans regularly.

Use proper storage to eliminate clutter.

Be sure that fire alarms and emergency exit signs are clearly
visible and easily accessible. If clutter blocks emergency exits
or alarms, it could endanger people trying to escape or warn
   others of a fire.

At entrances, use mats to reduce water tracked in by employees
and visitors. If there is heavy traffic at your entrances, change
   your mats frequently.
