     OSHA ANNOUNCES FEDERAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
     ==================================================

  The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is holding an
  open meeting of the Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and
  Health (FACOSH) on Sept. 24 in Washington.

  The 16-person council advises OSHA on issues concerning the safety and
  health of federal employees. The council, composed of eight union officials
  representing federal employees and eight management representatives from
  various federal agencies, also helps establish and maintain effective
  safety initiatives and policies in every federal agency.

  The agenda will include:

       Occupational safety and health programs, partnerships and evaluations.
       Department of Energy's zero tolerance for serious accidents that result
       in life-threatening injuries or major environmental contamination.
       53rd annual Federal Safety and Health Conference in Los Angeles.
       Status of annual reports for fiscal year 1997.
       New business.

  Written data, views or comments for consideration by the council may be
  submitted to John E. Plummer, U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA, Office of
  Federal Agency Programs, Room N-3112, 200 Constitution Avenue, N.W.,
  Washington, D.C. 20210; phone (202) 219-9329. Twenty copies are needed.
  Those submissions received prior to Sept. 16 will be included in the record
  of the meetings. Individuals with disabilities wishing to attend should
  contact him to obtain appropriate accommodations.

  Anyone wishing to make an oral presentation to the committee on any of the
  agenda items also should notify OSHA at the above address by Sept. 18. The
  request should specify the amount of time desired, the capacity in which
  the person will appear and a brief outline of the presentation. FACOSH may
  grant requests to speak, as time permits, at the discretion of the
  chairperson.

  The council will meet from 2 p.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. in Room S-4215
  A & B, Frances Perkins Department of Labor Building, 200 Constitution Ave.,
  N.W.
